SOETIC SOCIAL CLUB LAUNCHES POETRY MUSIC NIGHT AT DOT CLUB
For those people who complain that the city's music and poetry scenes have become stale: they're in for a treat. This Thursday, at 9pm, The Soetic Social Club presents WORDPLAY- a night of musical collaborations between the city's top international poets and musicians.
Wordplay was conceived by English speaking poets Michael Haeflinger, Moon, Lady Gaby, and musicians Joe Czarnecki and Cera- as a venue for performance poets and musicians to collaborate on musical projects and showcase their new works. The first Wordplay was presented at LUX cafe, the second was hosted by Cafe Karma. The third incarnation of Wordplay, at the Dot Club Lounge, has more of a international slant- it will feature German, English, and Italian performance poets and their musical counterparts.
After the first hour of Wordplay musical collaborations, the second hour of the event will turn into the Soetic Social Club. The Soetic Social Club founded by Evyonne Muhuri, Tony Dreannan, and Ryan Nash, is dedicated to turning poetry (classical and modern) into music. By challenging established performers and musical groups to transform standard poetry into musical masterpieces monthly, the Soetic Social Club has already stumbled upon a unique brand of poetry event. "As music lovers and poetry lovers, we kept searching for a vehicle to combine the two mediums in an innovative way. Finally, we came up with Soetic- songs and music derived from the wriiten word- poetry. And we decided that recruiting the best performers and music groups to create profound and infectious songs from poetry... is the only way to capture the attention of anyone who has an interest in music, poetry, or the creative process which lurks underneath both."
The night will begin with the works of Johannes Zarnikow, one of Berlin's most soulful piano players and singers, and then followed by poets Michael Haeflinger, Daniel Hoth, Lady Gaby, Maria Olivieri with musical accompaniment. After a short break, singer Meral Al-Mer, Tony Ditto, and Swedish performer Waldemaar will perform Rilke and Rumi songs with the help of musicians Wynton Kelley Stevenson, Daye, and others. Capping off the night is DJ Loganic from New York City, who will handle all music responsiblities after the event has ended.
